About Us
In the late 1960s, Ernest Callaway was granted permission to dumpster dive at the Wellington Rope Factory in the Piedmont region of North Carolina (Wellington was once the largest rope manufacturer). Mr. Callaway would retrieve several machines and parts, then figure out how to fix them and put them back into production.
Soon after, Ernest, along with the help of his son Ernest Jr. (Tim), started a manufacturing facility in Mount Airy, North Carolina, under the name Callaway Sales and Mfg. The father-and-son duo befriended another father-and-son team, Luther and Garry Potts, who helped with design, production, and distribution of the finished products. The Potts family would travel throughout the Southeast, selling custom braided ropes (for arborists, equestrians, utilities, yachts, etc.) at various venues. Keep in mind, this was before the internet, so they sold out of a truck, van, and trailer.
Unfortunately, all of these early pioneers of custom braided ropes have passed, but their legacy and influence continue under the name Valley Rope, with owner Robert Potts carrying the torch. We take exceptional pride in our ethics and products, and we have a prominent portfolio. We're just a call or click away.
